After our safari ended we flew back to Delhi and spent a night there. The next morning we drove to Agra and checked in to our hotel.
Later that afternoon we went to visit the red fort. It was the main residence of the rulers of the Mughal dynasty until 1638, when the capital changed from Agra to Delhi.
It was a baking hot afternoon and in one of the bedrooms I enjoyed a strong breeze coming through the window. Natural air conditioning, and it must have been wonderful to have a bed in this alcove.
We had a really good local guide who imparted a lot of information and who also enjoyed taking photos of us.
After leaving the red fort we went to some gardens across the river to see the back of the Taj Mahal at sunset.
The next morning we were up very early to go to the Taj Mahal again for sunrise. Photographs just don’t do it justice – it’s one of the most beautiful buildings I’ve ever had the privilege of seeing.

Once again our guide took a great group shot of us all.
Another smiley guard or policeman with a great beard!
Our trip was just about over. All we had left was to battle with traffic going back into Delhi 🙁
That evening we all had a last meal together before our various different flights home the next day. Although this was a ‘work’ trip, I thoroughly enjoyed spending two weeks with my lovely guests. The wildlife was great and the Taj Mahal was magnificent. The various guides were (mostly) excellent, and only two out of nine of us suffered Delhi Belly! Finally a big thanks to Siddharth (Sid) who accompanied us throughout, is a thoroughly lovely young man, and who made my job SO much easier.
