The Cotswolds. England.

It’s ridiculous that I have lived nearly my whole life less than an hour away from an “Area Of Outstanding Beauty”, yet had never gone to visit the pretty towns and villages there.  Last week I finally planned a route and spent a couple of days exploring Broadway and Broadway Tower, Chipping Campden, Hidcote National Trust, Moreton-in-Marsh, Bourton-on-the-water, Bibury and Castle Coombe.

The main street in Broadway. The wisteria was in full bloom everywhere.

The honey coloured stone is typical of this region and many of the houses have retained their old slate roofs.

Hidcote is a National Trust property and has absolutely beautiful gardens. I must go again in another season.

This looks like it should be featured in a Harry Potter film.

Tiny cottages. The top image must surely be a ‘one up, one down’ home. (A traditional house with one room upstairs and one room downstairs.)

Artisan Bakery shop. Artisan bread doesn’t have an exact agreed-upon definition, but much of the baking world use it to describe bread made by hand and marked by traditional methods and craftsmanship.

It’s obvious why Bourton-on-the-water gets its name!

The picturesque Arlington Row cottages in Bibury were built in 1380 and attracts visitors from all over the world. It’s like stepping back in time to see these.

Castle Coombe. There’s a car park at the top of a steep hill and it’s best to walk down as there is virtually no parking available in the village.

Woodworm has well and truly attacked this window, but it’s still survived.

  1. I used to go to that area when I was a kid staying with my grandparents just south of Birmingham. Hoping to revisit later this month when I get back from South Africa. I am staying with my cousin in Evesham for a few days
